The name Kokoloko comes from two kindergartens located near to the hotel. As part of the ‘Green Flag’ project that was organised by Keep Sweden Clean, the kindergartners visited the forest beside the hotel several times a week. At the same time, they read the book ‘Floyd in the Kokkolokko Forest’, in which the bird Floyd takes the children on an adventure the length of Sweden. They meet the wind, sun and water and learn how everything is connected - from the ancient Kokkolokko forest in the north of Sweden to the subterranean sewage systems beneath the big city.
To cut a long story short, the kindergartners made the forest by the hotel theirs and named it the Kokkolokko forest. We all thought this was such a good idea that we decided to name the hotel after it. As you can see, we are really proud of the kids, the forest and the name itself. We continue to work to find inspiration around our own environmental work - perhaps we will even work with kindergartens in future.
