Bunker Museum and Hirtshals Museum

Other things to do in Hirtshals

The North Sea Oceanarium

Discover the wonders of the deep at the North Sea Oceanarium — one of Northern Europe’s largest aquariums. Home to over 7,500 marine creatures and a vast outdoor play area, it’s a must-visit attraction for all ages in Hirtshals.

Hirtshals Lighthouse

Climb the 35-metre-high Hirtshals Lighthouse for breathtaking views of the North Sea and Northern Jutland. Built in 1863 by order of King Frederik VII, it remains the town’s proud landmark — complete with exhibitions, activities, and a cosy café serving homemade cakes.

Explore Hirtshals

The Bunker Museum consists of 60 bunkers from the Second World War hidden among the coastal grasslands by Hirtshals Lighthouse. The fortified bunkers were constructed by occupying German forces and are connected by a total of 3.5 kilometres of trenches. A beautiful and exciting area to wander through.

The whole area is designated as a museum, called the Bunker Museum. One of the larger bunkers features an exhibition about the harsh living conditions here during the war. If would like to learn more about the history of Hirtshals, you can also visit Hirtshals Museum.
