Also located in Østerbro is one of the city’s 4 major lakes with lakeside cafés and bike lanes. The neighbourhood has its own small sandy beach, Svanemøllestranden. You can also enjoy bathing at the designated harbour baths in neighbouring Nordhavn.

Fælledparken

One of the city’s largest green spaces, Fælledparken sits next to the national soccer stadium and is popular for ballgames and all kinds of outdoor family activities.

It is the only park in the city where you are permitted to bike. There are playgrounds for children, including wading pool areas for small children and one of the city’s largest skater parks.

ENIGMA Museum of Post, Tele & Communication

At the entrance to Fælledparken, you find the largest museum of the district, the ENIGMA Museum of Post, Tele & Communication, which offers a hands-on, minds-on world of activities for all ages.

Housed in an imposing neoclassical former post office, the museum is home to a rare specimen of the legendary ENIGMA machine, which was used for coding an encryption during WWII.

Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art

A small exhibition space across from the district railway station, Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art offers a chance to explore Danish and international contemporary art.

Den Frie was founded by artists in 1898 and is one of the oldest venues for contemporary art in Denmark. It is housed in a unique and very beautiful wooden building designed by artist J.F. Willumsen.

Svanemøllestranden

The small sandy beach of Svanemøllestranden is a local secret and located in outer Østerbro. Here, you will find a 130-metre long jetty.

The beach is staffed by lifeguards during the summer but swimming is permitted year-round. Bathing is also allowed at designated areas along the harbourfront boardwalks in the district of Nordhavn close to inner Østerbro.
