Explore Halmstad

Halmstad Castle was built in the early 1600s during the reign of King Christian IV, when Halmstad and the Halland region were still part of Denmark. Originally, the castle served as a pleasure residence for the king during his inspection tours and later as the official home of the governor.

Today, the county governor still resides in the castle, and parts of the building house the county administrative offices. During the summer, guided tours invite visitors inside to explore the historic interiors, while cultural events and exhibitions take place throughout the year.
