Just outside Mora lies the village of Nusnäs, home of the original Dala horse. At Nils Olsson Dalahästar, artisans have been handcrafting these iconic wooden horses since 1928. Each horse is carved by hand and painted with the traditional kurbit pattern that has become a symbol of Sweden and Dalarna.
During your visit, you can follow the entire process — from a simple block of wood to the finished horse — and browse the shop for souvenirs in every colour and size. While the classic red Dala horse remains the favourite, you’ll also find unique designs, wooden clogs, local handicrafts and gifts.
Don’t miss the chance to paint your own Dala horse and create a personal keepsake inspired by this proud Swedish tradition.
