First Hotel Mårtenson dates back to 1858, when Fredrik Mårtenson from Ljungby founded the establishment. It has remained open as a hotel ever since.
The early days
In the early days, the hotel was much smaller but has over the years expanded by acquisition. At present, the hotel consists of three interconnected buildings. The original hotel is located between Orups Gränd and Storgatan.
In the 1970s, the hotel underwent major refurbishment in which all original interiors were replaced by modern furnishings.
In 1996, the fifth floor was converted into hotel rooms. Until then it had been an executive floor for Vice-President Gruber, who lived there with his wife. When he passed away, she continued to live at the hotel until her death in 1996.
First Hotel Mårtenson at present
In August 1996, First Hotel Mårtenson joined the First Hotels chain. Recently renovated, the hotel now has 103 charming and distinctive rooms, four of them suites, with a total of 162 beds.
