See the world's largest Gingerbread Town

Gingerbread equals Christmas. With 2000 gingerbread creations, more than 600 kilos gingerbread and 100 000 visitors, the world’s largest Gingerbread Town (Pepperkakebyen) in Bergen will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit. Every year since the tradition began in 1991, the entire city unites to create the miniature, sugar-coated version of Bergen. And completely in the spirit of Christmas and Pepperkakebyen, all profits go to charitable organisations. 

Pepperkakebyen opens its doors from 16 November to 31 December 2019.
Children under 12 years and everyone who has contributed with a gingerbread house have free admission.
Youth (12-18 years) and students: 80 NOK
Adults: 100 NOK

Discover the magical Christmas market

Bergen Christmas Market opens its doors for the third time this year. Enter the magical atmosphere of Christmas in Bergen, and get familiar with the local customs. Taste locally produced (Christmas) food, as well as traditional food from across the country. You'll also find special and unique Christmas presents. With almost 80 stalls in addition to many activities, there's something for all ages. Don't skip visiting “Juletorget”, where you’ll find 12 local stalls every day. 

The Christmas Market is open every day from 28 November to 22 December from 10:00 – 21:00 (22 December until 18:00). Free admission.

Advent Fløyen

Enjoy spectacular views from Mount Fløyen

In the heart of Bergen, only 1 minute from Bryggen and First Hotel Bergen Marin, you’ll find the iconic Fløibanen Funicular, one of Norway’s most famous attractions. Jump on and experience one of the crown jewels of Bergen, Mount Fløyen. Here, you'll enjoy spectacular views of the city (and if you’re lucky, you’ll experience a true winter wonderland).

Are you feeling extra adventurous? Walk or hike up the mountain, and reward yourself with a delicious, crisp waffle with brunost and rømme (caramelised sheep’s cheese and sour cream, a Norwegian delicacy).

If you're lucky enough to visit, while the city is snow-dusted, bring or rent sledges and ride down the long, curvy hill. We promise it’s an experience of a lifetime.   

Every Sunday during Christmas, you can watch the advent candles get lightened, one-by-one. On all days ( Sundays included), you can relax in Fløistuen Café, enjoy festive Christmas music, Christmas theatre, and other fun activities.

Christmas in Bergen has a lot to offer besides Christmas activities. For the extra fit and adventurous visitors, you can hike up Ulriken, the tallest of the seven mountains in Bergen.

What to do when it's raining? Spend an afternoon with the fish, penguins, and starfish at the city's aquarium, Akvariet. And the museum, VilVite Science Centre is packed with exciting and educational activities – perfect for dull weather.

Last but not least, you can go on a Fjord Cruise and experience Bergen and its surrounding areas in all their winter glory. This is especially recommended on a beautiful, crisp winter day.
