The early days
In the early days the hotel was much smaller but over the years it has increased in size by acquisitions of nearby buildings. At present, the hotel consists of three buildings connected to each other. The original hotel is located between Orups Gränd (Alley) and Storgatan.
In the 1970s’ the hotel went through a major reconstruction. To meet expectations everything old was thrown out; the original stoves, the china and the furniture. At that time, everything should be modern and simple.
In 1996, the fifth floor underwent a renovation. Until then, that floor had been an executive floor for Vice-President Gruber who lived there together with his wife. When he passed away, she continued to live in the hotel up until her death in 1996.
First Hotel Mårtenson at present
In August of 1996 First Hotel Mårtenson joined the hotel chain First. Recently renovated, the hotel has 103 charming and distinctive rooms, four of them suites, with a total of 162 beds.
First Hotel Mårtenson is located in the heart of Halmstad, only 8 kilometres west of Tylösand which is one of Sweden’s most well-known beaches. Halmstad is also a golf paradise, with seven courses offering 138 holes a challenging fun. In order to attract the golfers First Hotel Mårtenson has a close co-operation with Halmstad Golf Club, Ringenäs Gk, Holms Gk and all the other Golf courses.
